Is Auriens only for people who need care?
Residents arrive in good health, and the reasons they give for moving are rarely about care at all. Often it's something more ordinary: a long-standing housekeeper retiring, and the hassle of finding someone new they can trust in the same way. The convenience of an on-site concierge and maintenance team, rather than coordinating tradespeople for every small repair. The pull of a location that puts everything that already matters to them, such as friends, family and familiar streets, within easy reach.
For many residents, the appeal is closer to the opposite of "needing care." It's having the freedom to focus on the parts of life they enjoy, without the upkeep of a large home running quietly in the background. Fewer things to arrange. Fewer things to worry about. More time for the life already in front of them.
It's worth being just as plain about this: mentioning care at all can make Auriens sound closer to a care home than it is. It isn't. But for the residents who do want support at some point, Auriens differs from many other later living communities in how that support works. Draycott Nursing & Care, sister company and part of the Auriens Group, is fully integrated into life at Auriens. Should the need ever arise, care can be provided in a resident's own apartment by a team who already know the building and its residents, rather than being handed over to an external agency or requiring a further move at a more difficult time. It's an option that exists quietly in the background for those who want it, not a defining feature of daily life for everyone else.
As resident advisor, Emily Foot, explains:
I think people hear ‘later living’ and picture something quite different from what this actually is. People choose to move here for the building, the location and the people with the reassurance that the support is there if they ever need it.
Should it be of interest to hear directly from residents about their own decision, and its timing, our Resident Advisors are glad to arrange an introduction. Contact Alice Hawke on 07917 352 411.
