Introduction
At Auriens Chelsea, we’re dedicated to helping residents live not just longer lives, but fuller, healthier ones. It’s why every resident can benefit from a bespoke wellness programme designed by our expert team, led by Gideon Remfry, our Director of Wellness. Recently, we welcomed writer, broadcaster, and national treasure Gyles Brandreth to experience first-hand how our approach can transform health and happiness.

Earlier this year, Gyles joined us to embark on a personalised, eight-week wellness plan designed around his specific goals. After an initial assessment with Gideon and the wider team, including ex-Olympians, nutritionists, and personal trainers, Gyles began working on three key areas: building strength, improving nutrition, and optimising sleep.

“I had the pleasure of visiting the wonderful Auriens to kick-start my personalised wellness journey with their expert team,” Gyles shared. “At Auriens, every resident benefits from a bespoke programme designed to support their physical health and keep them thriving in later life.”

Gyles described how his plan included increased strength training, higher protein intake, and small lifestyle tweaks to help improve sleep quality.

“We’ve worked on increasing my strength training, boosting my protein intake, and improving my sleep quality through more movement and even a splash of tart cherry juice in the evening” Gyles reported.

Two months later, Gyles returned to Auriens for a comprehensive review of his progress, and the results were impressive. He recorded a measurable reduction in BMI, primarily from a decrease in visceral fat, alongside gains in muscle mass. Even in a scaled-down version of our full resident programme, the benefits were substantial.

“The results demonstrate clear progress. I’m delighted to be feeling fitter than ever.” Gyles said. “These outcomes reflect the effectiveness of the personalised care, expert guidance, and proactive support available to all residents at Auriens Chelsea.”

Recently, Gyles shared his experience during a special evening at Auriens Chelsea, speaking to residents and guests about wellbeing in later life. Drawing on themes from his book The 7 Secrets of Happiness, he reminded us that true happiness comes not only from the mind but also from nurturing the body by staying active, eating well, and embracing change.

We’re grateful to Gyles for his humour, candour, and insight. His journey is a testament to how tailored wellness support can empower individuals to feel their best at any age. Highlights from Gyles's talk are available to watch in the video below.
